Disney's High School Musical has taken the cable television and music stores by storm! High School Musical lyrics and the extraordinarily popular High School Musical soundtrack have hit high on the charts since the first broadcast of the show on the Disney Channel in January 2006. DisneyChannel.com High School Musical highlights the unlikely friendship building between sports jock and basketball team captain Troy and intellectual student Gabriella at a karaoke contest. Neither knew then that Gabriella would be transferring to Troy's high school. This collaboration presents music by Peter Barsocchini ("Shadow-Ops") and features a score by David Lawrence with High School Musical songs by Matthew Gerrard, Robbie Nevil, David Lawrence, Faye Greenberg, Ray Cham, Greg Cham, Andrew Seeley, Randy Petersen, Kevin Quinn, Andy Dodd, Adam Watts, Jamie Houston. Disney's High School Musical lyrics are just as popular as the soundtrack, with ongoing music downloads and significantly high search requests for Disney's High School Musical songs and lyrics.
"The movie features several other radio-ready tunes," reports Laura Fries of Variety, "most notably the duets "Start of Something New," by Matthew Gerrard and Robbie Nevil, and "When There Was Me & You," by Jamie Houston. As usual with Disney, the net has promised numerous cross-promotions and tie-ins via TV and the Web."

The High School Musical movie soundtrack to the Disney Channel made-for-TV movie climbed 48 places to No. 10 in a Billboard 200 albums chart immediately following the movie's premier, and placed nine tracks on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, driven in large part by a surge in online High School Musical mp3 downloads from iTunes. Yahoo news reported after the movie's release that the Disney High School Musical soundtrack had risen high on the charts since its release. According to Playbill in January 2006, "The "High School Musical" soundtrack released on Jan. 10 hit the charts as the "Greatest Gainer" on The Billboard 200, climbing into the Top 10 (at No. 10) from No. 58 (on last week's chart) after its debut at No. 143."

The High School Musical Soundtrack also reached top billing in a number of other markets, appearing "at No. 1 on the Top Kid Audio chart and Top Soundtracks. At press time, the album was No. 1 on Apple iTunes' "Today's Top Albums" and two singles "Breaking Free" and "Get'cha Head in the Game" from the soundtrack placed in the top 10 of 'Today's Top Songs.'" Also notable is that High School Musical songs download is one of the top music download requests. The press has reported impressive sales and performance on major charts, with Brian Garrity reporting on Yahoo that "High School Musical," which debuted on January 20, has steadily laid claim to the top-selling album, the top-selling track ("Breaking Free") and as many as five additional tracks on iTunes' daily top lists in the wake of the TV movie's debut. "Breaking Free" topped the current Hot Digital Songs chart with 82,000 paid downloads."
Damon Whiteside, VP of marketing for Disney Records, reports that a free download of the song "Breaking Free" on the Disney Web site ran second to iTunes purchases of the track, assuring Disney's High School Musical soundtrack ranks as the label's top digital seller, with more than 413,000 tracks and 28,000 digital albums sold by January 2006. The demand for High School Musical soundtrack downloads continued to climb as excitement grew for the release of the movie sequel, High School Musical 2 in August 2007.
